April 2016 Newsletter

The first day at Kindergarten is a memorable, exciting, nervous, and anxious time for mother and child. Most children and mothers will never forget the first day at Kindergarten. Hopefully, it was a good experience for all of you! I mention this because April 21st is ‘Kindergarten Day’, and we have open enrollment!

Kindergarten Day is celebrated in honor of Friedrich Froebel. In 1837, he started the first Kindergarten in Germany. Kindergartens were originally a 1/2 day to get children acclimated into learning, social interaction, and school, in a fun, yet educational manner. It soon became popular and Kindergarten has evolved in most areas into a full time program.

As you are well aware we are now into open enrollment for 2016/17 throughout the entire center. Some of the classrooms are now on a wait list and others have openings. If you have not secured a spot for your child and want to, then now is the time before we fill up. Also remember that recommending us has its benefits too! If you know someone looking for care/education and they come due to your recommendation, then you get a week’s complimentary tuition. Who doesn’t want that?

Thanks goes out to all of our parents, grandparents, Ms. Deb and Ms. Becca (along with baby Jessie) who stopped by the classrooms to read in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Many of the children had fun hanging out in their PJ’s, celebrating Dr. Seuss by doing crafts and activities, also having a birthday cake treat.

April 11th thru 15th – Week of the Young Child™ – this is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. We will be creating a ‘Footsteps to the Future’ mural and Thursday that week we will be hosting a concert by Judy Pancoast, which the children love so much. On Friday, April 15th the center will be ‘purpling-up’ in honor of the month of the military child, so please have your child wear purple and join us in honoring our center’s military children; Annaliese in Tadpoles 2 & Jacen in Nursery.

Our Annual Walkathon will soon be here. Save the date – May 7th, 10am. For those new to the center; this is a fun event for all of our families (dogs included). We walk around Dorrs Pond at Livingston Park in Manchester, mingling with fellow parents. Children get to see their friends and it is a great community event. We raise funds for our summer curriculum with sponsorship, a raffle and bake sale. Watch for sign-up coming soon!
