May 2012 – Newsletter

Dear Parents,

May is here and there are many stories around suggesting how the month of May was named. The most widely accepted explanation is that it was named for Maia, the Roman goddess of spring and growth. Her name related to a Latin word that means increase or growth, which certainly seems apt for this time of year. We will soon be coming to the ending of another academic year and we reflect on the growth and development our children have made over the year, the things they have discovered and achieved, and we start to look forward to what will be. As you may have seen or been participating in, teacher appreciation week is in May. Please join us in appreciating your child’s teacher and all that they do for us. Just a thank-you, a drawing or hug is very much appreciated. The teachers are getting spoiled and loving it!

With growth in mind, it is this time of year that Deb starts our annual garden. The children have so much fun tending it each year and enjoying the fruits of their labor. While I am on the subject of spring and growth, it is with wonderment that Polliwogs are enjoying the resident robin who has taken to nesting in their yard and during the weekend of May 5/6 laid three eggs.

Thank-you to all of you who supported us in many ways at our Annual Walkathon. This event comes together because of all of you. From the members of the Parent Advisory Board, without who this event would not be possible, to those who walked and collected pledges, our many raffle sponsors, Geri, Deb & all the other staff members who baked, walked and supported the event. Through these efforts we were able to raise $1056.09 towards our new security door! Congratulations to all our raffle prize winners – Enjoy!

It has been a little over a year now since Little Frogs launched their new website. There is a lot of stuff on there. This is great place to check out closings, events that we have going on and much more. There is a calendar of events, along with our downloadable handbook and much more. If you don’t see what you are looking for then call Sharon in the office and maybe she can help you find it.

Museum week  – This month’s museum week theme is ‘Classroom Choice’, so be ready to be amazed by the array of artwork. The children’s artwork will be on display May 29th thru June 1st. Please stop by and take a look.
