February Newsletter 2012

Dear Parents,

February is of course the month of celebrating love and relationships and to keep in line with that, ‘LOVE’ is the theme for this month’s museum week’s title. The children’s artwork will be on display February 27th thru March 2nd. Please stop by and take a look.

What many of us do not realize is that February is national snack food month . As Little Frogs is no longer offering a lunch program, this is a great time to remind you all how important it is to make sure those snacks you are sending in with your child every day are healthy. There are some great nutritious, non-peanut snacks out there. Please help us to help keep your child healthy.

The next few months are very busy for us at Little Frogs with lots of exciting events going on. Throughout February we are having a competition with the opportunity for your child to win a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card. The gift card will go to the child who brings in the most box tops throughout the month. Watch your child’s cubby for a collection sheet. If any of you shop online please consider using Box Tops Marketplace. Sign up to support Little Frogs at www.btfe.com . Hundreds of stores that you shop at are there and it costs you nothing! From electronics stores such as Best Buy, Apple Store and Dell, or for your vacation planning consider Expedia, not forgetting the children’s supplies at The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Leaps & Bounds and of course Toys R Us. There are many stores, so log on and check it out!

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday than reading to a child? On the anniversary of his birthday and in conjunction with the ‘Read Across America ‘ project, on Friday, March 2nd we are having our annual center-wide pajama birthday party celebration! Help us to encourage reading and literature in a fun way. We are looking for parents, family or friends to volunteer to read on this day in your child’s classroom. Help us send a clear message to our children that reading is fun and important. We’ll be doing Dr. Seuss related projects and enjoying birthday cake too!

As we are on the subject of books, the Parent Advisory Board is excited to announce the launch of their first fundraising recipe book. It is titled ‘Pot Luck Social’ and will be available for pre-order through February 14th for a discounted price and no shipping fees. Order forms will be in your child’s cubby if you are interested. A sample book is available for you to view at the center or you can see a limited sneak peek here http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2948847 if you prefer an electronic version then you can purchase an eBook version for iPad or iPhone for instant download.

We plan to produce a recipe book each year. Next years will be titled ‘Easy Entrees’, covering salads, crock pot recipes and entrees with only 5 ingredients. If you have a favorite recipe that falls into one of those categories please submit it to us to be included. We love to have photos too, but if that’s not your thing then having the recipe is just fine. Email the office if you have something to contribute.

Every day we like to get your child outside to get some exercise. If temperatures are safe then we will go outside, even if only for a short time. We like to promote health and family and no better way than to celebrate than to gather again for our 4th Annual Walkathon. This year it will be held at Livingston Park on Saturday April 14th (rain date April 21st). The children and their families get to socialize with each other in a casual environment while helping their classrooms raise money. We will be raising money to purchase and install a security door at Little Frogs. The security of your child is important to us, so please support us. You can do this in many ways. Just having you child collect pledges and join us on the day to walk is great! We are currently looking for donations for the raffle. If anyone can help in any of these areas please contact Deb (deb@littlefrogsandpolliwogs.com) or Sharon (Sharon@littlefrogsandpolliwogs.com). Every little bit helps, so please do not hesitate to offer even the smallest amount or prize. Every year we have a bake sale at the walkathon, so any of you who bake that would like to offer up a batch of goodies please contact Sharon at the email address above. There are so many ways to help and pulling together makes for a great family community, something so many of our parents cherish.

For all of you who currently have children in Preschool, Ms. Becca will be hosting Kindergarten Open House on Wednesday March 9th, 6-7pm for all parents looking to place their children at Little Frogs Kindergarten in September. This is a great opportunity to meet Ms. Becca and get to know what goes on in Kindergarten. Registration for Kindergarten will be available that night. A $50 registration fee along with the registration will hold a spot for your child.

Finally before I sign off we would like to thank all of you who came out to support us at Pizza Hut. It seems from parent response to these restaurant events that we are going to try and have a restaurant fundraiser every month, so if you didn’t make the last one or pizza is not your thing then look out for up-coming events.
